HELEN COULTER ART

Why do I paint?  I was asked that question once, the answer was, because I love it, because I can, but I paint because it is who I am. It is a part of me that cannot be denied.

To be an artist is who I am to the exclusion of all else. When you are my client you get a piece of my life, a piece of my soul.

Welcome you to my online store, here you will find a collection of my original artworks, paintings, pastels and graphite drawings & high-quality Giclee reproductions.

Prints are available in small, medium or large prints, ready for framing.
Just for you or to give as a special gift.
I’m sure that you will find something that you will love here, thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work.

WINX – LIMITED EDITION PRINT

So some time ago I was given permission from Debbie Kepitis via Analese Trollope of Chris Waller Racing to paint Winx, I did this painting after her 25th win. The owners all saw it at that time however something Patty Tighe said made me decide not to show it until after she had safely finished racing! I am somewhat superstitious!

So that I could share my painting with you I have created a strictly limited edition print run. This is your chance to own a bespoke piece of Winx history, each hand signed by me with a certificate of authenticity. Once they are sold this print image will never be available again. When you purchase from me you, you do so knowing that I spent countless hours creating this and it was painted from my heart and soul.

I genuinely hope you love my painting as my as I loved creating it!
Helen

Reflecting on a Friday Afternoon. I often get asked what mediums I use and what is my favorite.
Well Acrylic on canvas is my fav! I love acrylic paint, it’s a fast medium, due to the drying time, but I tend to work at speed, so it suites my style, I love to blend it to achieve a lovely soft look.
I use @Atelier Interactive, it is professional grade paint with a lovely consistency and I paint on 12oz Australian made canvas.

As I still have so much work that I cannot show you right now, I'm have a bit of a looky back, I was lucky to be asked to paint the ponies and horses in one girls life as she grew, sort of like a timeline, back in 2007!
they are L to R Roman Estate, Falconhurst Classic, Kawanna Park Dark Crystal and Dunelm Star Occasion.
This painting was made up of multiple photos to create the illusion that they are all together.

I thought you might like to see how the Paard Verzameld Zorn pallet challenge came together for me.
The challenge is use the reference photo kindly provided by Kathy Russell Fine Art Animal Photography in 7 days using the limited pallet of the four colours of Ivory balck, yellow ochre, Vermillion red and titanium white, as use by the artists Andreas Zorn.
This truely wasnt easy, and took me out of my comfort zone, I initially thought, how on earth am I going to recreate that image realisticly using only those colours!!!
Once I got my head around it, it was really awesome fun, and I was amazed just how many colours I could make. I used many layers in some places with lots of blending, painted in soft pastel, pastel pencils on pastel mat.

I belong to the Paard Vermeld face book group and every month there is an art challenge, this was no 23, I was determined to do this one as it would take me completely out of the comfort zone, by using a limited palette!! The Zorn Palette, what is this I hear you say!! Lol.
The Zorn palette refers to a palette of colors attributed to the great Swedish artist, Anders Zorn (1860 – 1920) - Yellow ochre-Black-Vermilion Red and White.
The challenge to create something realistic from just these 4 colors seemed to me, to be something beyond my capabilities! But here is the result!
I will publish a work in progress post shortly, so you can see how I did it! Its completely fascinating!!
Pop over the Paard Verzameld page to see other efforts which will be posted over the next couple of days.
Have to say a bit thank you to www.facebook.com/Kathy-Russell-Fine-Art-Animal-Photography for supplying the reference pic for this one!

Finished! my latest scratch board, learnt so much doing this one. This is the iconic brumby stallion, Posterboy. How handsome he is! Wild and free!
This is based on a photo by www.facebook.com/snowybrumbyadventures
Michelle lives and breathes the high country, she documents everything about it. She is also the president of the group www.facebook.com/groups/allbrumbiesinc/?ref=share
So if you are interested in the plight of the brumby, head over to this group, who’s main aim is to support the rehoming programme of our Kosciusko brumbies and to help the sanctuaries .
In the end the rehoming sanctuaries are the backbone of saving our brumbies and without them most of, if not all brumbies will go to slaughter once trapped and removed.

the stunning riding pony stallion INXS of Sefton aka Mikey
I painted this for his owners 40th birthday. Even though in the original photo he was plated up and wearing his bridle it was decided to just have him in his glorious natural state.
So wonderful for me to paint.

Painted this back in 2013! The stunningly handsome Junior, he was a Christmas present!
He was quite difficult to paint due to his spots being on his skin as well as in his coat and all different shades and colors. Kept getting lost in them! lol.
If anyone is thinking about Christmas paintings you do need to let me know as I'm pretty much booked up right through into next year, and I will only be taking a small amount of Christmas work this year. So ho ho ho, now is the time to start thinking! yes in July!! lol
